Introduction:
Canada Study Permit

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issues study permits that allow a foreign national to study in Canada for a limited time.

Applying for a Study Permit

For the duration of the student visa, eligible individuals are allowed to work while they complete their program. This is a great opportunity to obtain a high caliber education, Canadian job experience and take steps towards becoming a Permanent Resident in Canada.

Until 2023, spouses of international students studying full-time at eligible Canadian programs could get spousal open work permits (SOWPs). Presently, only spouses of master’s and doctoral students, as well as those in professional programs like law and medicine, can get open work permits under this category. Spouses of international students in undergraduate and other college programs are no longer eligible for open work permits.
